The Internet Society (ISOC), Ghana Chapter is pleased to announce the 2017 edition of its ghNOG Workshop to be held at Blue Crest from November 20 – 24, 2017. The Workshop will start with a four-day advanced training in three tracks and end with a half-day conference. There will be three (3) Workshop Tracks as follows : a) Scalable Internet Services, b) Network Monitoring and Management, and c) Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT).
- Scalable Internet Services track focuses on the design, installation, configuration and operation of Domain Name System server, Web Server, Email Server, and other Internet services, in ways that can scale to handle large numbers of end users. Experience with installing and administering some version of Unix/Linux, installing software packages, extracting information from ‘man’ pages, creating configuration files etc. Those who are not fully conversant with Unix should contact ISOC Ghana Chapter to participate in the ISOC online Unix System Administration Track before joining the workshop.
- Network Monitoring and Management track deals with process of administering and managing the computer networks of organizations. Various services provided by network managers include; fault analysis, performance management, provisioning of network and network devices, maintaining the quality of service etc. The track focuses on monitoring tools that constantly monitors a computer network for slow or failing components and that notifies the network administrator (via email, SMS or other alarms) in case of outages.
- Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) track covers the creation and management of a CSIRT. Studies reveal that 30% of the cybercrimes originate from technical source and 70% are from non-technical source. Based this, the CSIRT track will include: Introduction of CSIRT and its benefits for organizations, IT security Analysis, IT Security Policy and Procedure developing, and online secure communications with the use of cryptography. Cybersecurity incident handling drills will provide hands-on scenario to the participants.
The Workshop targets senior and mid-level technical staff of academic networks, Government networks, NGO networks, commercial Internet service providers (ISPs), Students (Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Information Technology) etc.
