NexGen Online Safety Outreach Project (Begoro, Fanteakwa North)

Day 1 of the NexGen Online Safety Outreach Project was successfully completed at the Salvation Army Church in Begoro, Fanteakwa North β€” and what an inspiring start it was! πŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸ’™ We recorded an impressive turnout of 225 participants made up of: πŸ”₯ Ghana National Fire Service πŸ›’ Traders and artisans πŸŽ“ Students from Begoro PRESEC 🌍 World Vision representatives πŸ’Ό Self-employed individuals πŸ₯ Ghana Health Service staff …and many more community members eager to learn and stay safe online. ✨ Opening Session The event began with warm, motivating opening remarks from our dignitaries: – Abdul Razak Masawood, District Director of the NYA, delivered an insightful keynote speech. – The District Chief Executive, Hon. Osmanu Abubakar, who expressed his excitement that Begoro was selected for this important outreach. – Our ISOC Ghana Chapter President, Madam Maud Ashong, shared a powerful message on the importance of digital safety and community empowerment. 🧠 Interactive & Practical Sessions About 80% of the communication was done in the local language (Twi) β€” making the training more relatable, inclusive, and engaging. Participants took part in hands-on sessions covering: πŸ” Privacy and account safety 🌐 Digital footprints πŸ›‘ Safe online behaviour 🚫 Managing online abuse πŸ“± Practical digital safety tools πŸ’‘ Key Takeaways Here’s what participants learned: – How to enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on WhatsApp and other platforms. How to create strong, unique passwords and why password reuse is risky. – Safe ways to communicate and seek help when experiencing online bullying. – Understanding digital footprints and how every online action can follow you. – Smart sharing habits β€” taking and posting the right pictures safely. 🌟 Community Response The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. The energy, participation, and willingness to learn from the Begoro community were truly inspiring. We are excited and motivated as we prepare for Day 2 and Day 3 of this impactful outreach across Fanteakwa North.
